It’s 2016! It’s the first day of the year and the world is celebrating. And each one in every nation, family or individual has a way of celebrating it. Some would prefer to prepare more festive food on the table. Some would have a complete set of 12 different round fruits. Others would prefer to spend it out of the country. Some would spend a lot of money for firecrackers to create noise to drive away bad and evil spirits so they say. And these are but a few that I know being done here in our country. What about you?
Well, you would be asking what about me? How did I spend the first day of 2016?
Actually, I didn’t prepare much. It’s just that we did some cleaning and de-cluttering a few days before 2015 ends. I was not even concerned about this 12 round fruits that should be on my table come 2016. I had some oranges, a cantaloupe, a couple of pears and four apples though, and that’s it. We had a store bought roast chicken that we ate a couple of hours before New Year strikes. Some spaghetti in white sauce and some fruit salad and baked potatoes in white cream sauce and bits of ham that I prepare out of whim. And kept everything in the fridge after we ate some. Nothing on the table. Just a pitcher of water.
When 12 midnight strikes, I am on my computer, playing some disco music on Youtube that I could hardly hear because of the sounds of firecrackers left and right here in our neighborhood. . Gee, can we just use hornpipes, cymbals, drums or anything that doesn’t use gunpowder that pollutes our environment? I could hardly breathe that I really had to exert some effort.
I am doing some experiment. I started the year 2016 with nothing on my table, didn’t create noise to drive away evil spirits and have no dozen fruits to attract good luck. No talisman or amulets whatsoever. With that said, will I still be lucky or I will be in big trouble financially in 2016?
I had practiced all these beliefs before that I have to buy fruits I don’t really like, not ripe or matured at all at an exorbitant cost because it is round and it will complete the required dozen. When I was young, I jumped as high as I can on New Year because I want to be taller. We had prepared and spent on food that we can eat for a week instead of a day. I bought some talisman or amulets that will attract good luck and good fortune for me and the family. Guess, who had the fortune of accumulating wealth?
I’ll be posting some of my experiences this 2016.
To track down my progress as I live my life. Will I succeed or will I fail?
Some throwbacks that made me who I am now. You would need some tissues or hanky maybe. You would crack into laughter. Hmmm…
Some things I want to accomplish at this age. Would you be with me or would cheer me on?
So, what did you do this New Year 2015? I love to hear your story. Please feel free to comment.
Happy New Year! May 2016 be the best that you get all the love you need, the things that you want, the experiences that you seek and peace of the soul. Namaste!
